Terminating the Contract of Employment

Sometimes, the employment relationship may end due to a conflict between the parties, but even then, one should act reasonably, in mutually good faith and be fair to the other party in order to keep good relationships. Knowing ones’ rights and responsibilities and following these simplifies the employment relationship end both to the employee and the employer.

Employment Contracts Act provides an exhaustive list of contract termination reasons. This means that a contract may not be terminated on reasons not stipulated by the act.

Reasons for ending the employment contract are as follows:

  • Ending the employment relationship on mutual agreement;
  • Fixed-term expiration;
  • Employee’s death;
  • The death of the physical person employer, if the contract was concluded considering the employer’s person;
  • Cancellation.
