Staying safe down on the farm: reducing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders among agricultural workers

Farming is a sector with one of the highest rates of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), as it traditionally involves heavy loads, repetitive movements and static postures. A new discussion paper looks into the example of Italy’s Marche region to examine how mechanisation can reduce the MSDs risk factors.

The paper –– and a second paper focusing on risk assessment of upper limbs MSDs in agriculture to be published later this year –– were produced under a research agreement between EU-OSHA and INAIL , the Italian National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work.
