Preventing musculoskeletal disorders in the construction sector

14.01.2021

Moving loads, awkward postures and vibrations from machinery all take their toll on the body: it is no surprise then that construction workers face an increased risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

A new discussion paper explores this issue and looks at the importance of effective risk assessment.

It also shines a light on progress being made in Italy, where the work safety authority INAIL  is rolling out an incentive scheme to mechanise manual operations and update equipment, thereby reducing MSD risk factors in the sector.
